Welcoming 2010…

It’s been a while since I last posted here on my blog. There are a lot to fix with this blog actually, hope I get to organize and update some links soon.

Anyway. 2009 was hell of a year for me, filled with a mixture of all emotions – laughter, heartbreaks, anger. But nevertheless, it has been a great experience for me. I learned to be strong again, I’ve learned to let go, stay happy with friends, and all that. And I’ll surely take it with me, to help me get through the many more obstacles to come my way.

I’ve had love and friendships lost the past year. I’ve had my heart broken, and I’ve broken someone’s heart in turn. In a good way though. Something about that guy pushed me to turn him down. He deserved it.

But, I guess 2009 wasn’t the year for me. Although, I can say I got through it with the help of my friends, without really needing someone to love me to get me through the year. I had my family and friends, and their love for me was more than enough. This 2010, I know there are more challenges to come. But, I’m more than ready. I’ve learned to take everything slowly, let everything fall into place and not hurry for anything to happen. I know someone is bound to love me forever, for as long as I live. I know he’s out there somewhere, and I can’t wait to meet him. =D

Well, hope u all had a good new year! =D Take care all of you.. XD

How I Want My Dream House

It was just a random thought that popped into my mind while browsing the net. =D Well, as the title suggests, this is how I want my dream house to look like, or probably ideas on how I see my Dream House.

So, to start off, I really would like to have my own Craft Room when I have my dream house. It definitely should have a Craft Room, since I’ve really dreamed of having tons of materials for my crafty side (even if I’m not that good at it.. haha). Below are pictures of how I want my Craft Room to look like:

A nice and neat Craft Room with a lot of shelves and drawers. Perfect for keeping things organized and looks really neat. I love the work table of this room

I also love the many drawers and shelves of this room. Plus, looks really chic.. =D

I loooove this room! The color, and as well as the cabinets and drawers around the work area. And, the work area has some drawers beside it, which makes you accessible to most used tools and materials! I'd say this is my favorite! The cabinets are perfect storages for ribbons.. =D

Next, kitchen! The main requirement for my kitchen would be those that have the center islands sort of thing. And I like my house to be semi-modern. I don’t want everything looking modern for some reason. I still like classic house styles.

Neat and Clean, except that it's too "white".. Probably if it were just a shade of brown, then it would be perfect

I would also like a kitchen nook, surrounded by windows overlooking the garden. I dont have any specific requirements for bedrooms or living rooms. Just as long as I have a bay window at the living room, where I could lie or rest, or maybe read a book. And, I would love my home to have really big windows.. =D

I’m pretty lazy to find other room ideas, which is why I placed just two of what I look for in my dream house. Maybe if I’m not lazy next time, I’d add more ideas on here.. =D

Software Freedom Day 09

Software Freedom Day 09

Software Freedom Day 09

Sept. 19, 2009 – Software Freedom Day 09 was celebrated at my Alma Mater, Systems Plus College Foundation (SPCF) at the IT Building Theatre. Being an OJT at our department’s office (CITE), me and my fellow OJT taker was required to help out and assist during the event (although I can’t really remember anything we did to help out, all I know was during the buzz and fuss of those at the registration, we were at the coffee shop, drinking a cup of hot coffee! =D). Anyways, by the time we got to the theatre, the main purpose of the event was being introduced. Afterwards, our Dean, Prof. Grace Fabros-Tyler gave the guests an insight of SPCF and the new IT Building. Well, afterwards, we got out of the the theatre to go around the other venues for the talks, which happen to be starting at 1:00 pm yet. I also decided to sign up for the PHP Programming Competition, which I joined just for mere enjoyment. And boy! It sure was more than just for fun! =D

Anyway, we spent some time at the mall, had lunch and strolled around. Comes 1pm, we headed back to school. Turns out, competition starts at 1:30 yet. So we decided to go to the library while we wait for the time.

Finally, 1:30 strikes, we head back to the laboratories, and find out that other speakers are having their plenary sessions already. Me, and a few of my classmates, who also joined the programming competition went straight to the laboratory where the competition as well. To our surprise, all of us know each other, since we’ve been classmates at some point. And, to add to that, I was the only gal in there. Cool! =D And so we thought it was just going to be a friendly competition. Definitely just for the heck of fun. The officiators of the event were very friendly, and we got to learn more stuff before the competition proper, which is really cool! It was just like a lesson at school, as we tried out a sample problem before actually proceeding to the competition proper. A few minutes after we started, finally, 2 other competitors from other schools joined in. At least, we have other competitors for added tension. Haha.

The questions ranged from easiest to toughest. Well, actually, they weren’t tough. It’s just that time pressure keeps you from thinking more out of the box. I nearly had the first question, except I lacked a code segment. Which is why I got 2nd for the first set of points. “It’s okay, there are other questions, I can catch up,” I said to myself. I moved on question after question, finding one that I could finish quickly. True enough, I found a question which converted a certain number to binary, hex, and octal, and fortunately found a function readily available on the net. “Nice!” is what I thought. Quickly, I highlighted the code segment, and with my quick fingers, Ctrl-C -> Alt-Tab -> Ctrl V, and added a few more codes to finish it up. When I was raising my hand for me to get the points, too bad the officiator was already checking another person’s work! Well, I did not know he was having his work checked already. Coz by the time they got to me, and checked my work and gave me 2pts, they had a mistake, and I thought I was already leading. After a while, they changed it, realized they had a mistake, and changed the rank. Well, anyways, that was okay, so I tried solving another one, but then, time was up, and we scores were finalized.

Boy, was I surprised to find out I got 2nd place! Haha. If I just got the 2nd problem first, I got 1st place, but then the other competitor was ahead of me by just seconds! But then, it was still cool since I never expected I’d rank on the competition. After all, I joined for fun and experience. =D And winning was a plus! =D

Afterwards, all participants and winners were asked to go straight to the Theatre. As soon as we got there, we realized on how much we’ve missed out on. The crowd were noisy as the officiators were holding games and giving out prizes. It was fun just by seeing it. Too bad we also missed out on the plenary sessions. But, oh well!

Finally, we were called to go up front as our names were called one by one. It was very heart-warming how those from our department cheered out for us, showing how proud they were of us, and as well as the contest officiators, saying that they were pretty amazed and glad that we took the courage to join the competition, describing how hard we tried to work on the problems. =D

Yay! I got some freebies. CD’s, tumbler, mug (perfect for my coffee-addictus personality, haha!), tshirt, and a travel bag. (I sure got a lot of freebies that day! LoLz, not to mention those from PCWorkx, PLDT, and KahelOS.. ahaha). Afterwards, picture taking time!!! First the participants, then everyone else present at the Theatre. Too bad I haven’t got pics myself. Oh well…

To sum it all up, I could say I enjoyed the event 101%. I definitely learned a lot, enjoyed and surely was an unforgettable experience. I still got SFD hangover I think. Hehe. I’m looking forward to the next SFD as well, since my first time attending was just awesome! =D

Thesis, Algorithms, Oral Defense: A Glimpse Of Thesis Life

Thesis of Computer Science students was harder than I thought. It’s a long and challenging road to the end of it all. All the while I thought it wouldn’t be so hard, as if its just one of our exercises in the laboratories. Seems like it’s the other way around.

Thesis Title Proposal: Autonomous Ground Vehicle for Advanced Military and Civilian Use using GPS Navigation

We’ve just passed our title proposal last two weeks. Before the defense, I was pretty nervous despite me having quite some background about it. Luckily, my dad is helping me with it. We have contacts to people who have the instruments and devices needed. So, we have not much of a problem when it comes to devices needed. I was also interested with the proposal because it involves trying to move the robot autonomously without any supervision of humans. Pretty cool isn’t it.

Anyways, back to the day of our Title Proposal. Our instructor/adviser wasn’t around to help us out during the process of the defense. It kind of let us down, knowing we will be doing it on our own. And we even thought we won’t be able to defend. But, fortunately, we were allowed to defend our thesis proposal, and it was more than I expected. We had panelists who I know are tough and I thought I will be having a really hard time explaining. But then, it went smoothly, and I was able to satisfy their questions as well. Although they thought it was too complicated for us to accomplish. I told them that me and my thesis groupmates can make it, but, still, they insisted it was impossible. So, they decided we focus on the algorithm, and just demonstrate that we are able to move the vehicle using a laptop.

So far, we haven’t started documenting yet. I’m pretty excited already, although nervous that I might not be able to finish it. But, I still believe I can. All I need is to exert more effort to make it successful. =D

Anyway, will be posting any further updates on our thesis progress. Probably even pictures of our progress. Hope all goes well!

Shoutout to thesis takers like me, especially my classmates: Go Go Go!! We can do it! XD

Manga Review: "Doubt"

digg_url = ‘http://bits-n-pieces.net/archives/204′;

Doubt Cover
Doubt is a psychological/mystery/thriller manga. It is about a game going about in Japan in which a Wolf is chosen, and everyone else are the rabbits. Each one, the wolf kills one of the rabbits, which leaves them trying to figure out who the Wolf is, not knowing that one of them actually is the wolf, pretending to be one of them. If they don’t figure out who the real wolf is, they will continue to decrease in number, and the Wolf will succeed with his plans.

My Review:
I actually got the suggestion to read the manga through a friend. She keeps talking about the manga, and I got curious and asked about it. And so, she suggested that I read about it and find out for myself why it is a good read.

And definitely, I wasn’t disappointed with it. In fact, I LOVED it! It is one of my faves next to Deathnote (I still got a huge crush on L, whether manga or anime.. :P ). First of all, I am most drawn to mangas drawn really nicely! I don’t like reading mangas which have drawings that are similar to the earlier mangas (I’m pretty choosey you see.. :P ). Well, anyway, the first time I read it, I totally got hooked, and finished the manga in just 2 days! Although it just contains 20 chapters, which is really short. The thrill wasn’t as thrilling as expected though. It’s as if what is to happen is easy to predict. But then, I could say it is definitely a good read for me!

So, in my opinion, I give the manga an 8/10. Not bad, right? :P So, to you all out there trying to find a cool and mystery manga, do check Doubt out. Here is a site where you could read it for free:

My Day of Independence: Unforgettable Moments and How You Could Celebrate Yours

digg_url = ‘http://bits-n-pieces.net/archives/191′;

Finally. I’ve turned 21. The age when you, supposedly, are entitled to 100% of you freedom (although I don’t I’m getting mine a 100%.. Haha). But, despite the fact the fact that I am not anywhere getting younger, I still enjoyed the whole third week of July.

Since May, I’ve already planned to have a party for me and my friends. So I got an online job, and saved up for my birthday celebration (July 25). Thankfully, everyone I’ve invited came, and the party turned out to be really, really fun! So anyways, here are a coupe things I won’t ever forget during, not only the 3rd week, but for the whole month of July.

  • My Mr. Evil Grin gift.
This was given by a very very good friend of mine. He chose it because it kinda reminds me of him.
    Mr. Evil Grin
  • Getting 5+ birthday greeting and wishes from the same person.
Yeah. I got the birthday greeting for 5 or more times, but the funny and best part of it, I never got tired of hearing it. =D
  • Greetings from all my friends and family.
Of course, who wouldn’t feel good about it? Even if you do not have to remind or tell them that it’s your birthday, they still remembered and never failed to greet. XD Sweet.
  • Enough earnings for my party.
I worked hard for this party! So I’m really happy that I got enough money to spend for the things we needed for my celebration.
  • Laugh Trip with my friends.
I never get tired of laughing. It’s really fun to laugh along with your friends as you eat and sing along to the karaoke. Reminisce about certain events, laugh about something really shallow. Sure is something to treasure and remember.
  • Seeing my old friends/classmates.
It was really cool to see my classmates/friends again who aren’t continuing their studies anymore. We were able to catch up with a lot of things, laugh and share stories, despite the little time we spent together. They managed to find time to come over to my party and sure made me happy.
  • Food!
Everyone’s favorite part! I definitely loved the food during the party. I made sushi and my mom had other dishes cooked. Good thing, everyone loved the food served (who wouldn’t anyway?). :D
  • The people I invited mostly came.
Not unlike last year (which was a total bummer!), the friends I wanted around were actually around! Haha. Which made me have a really good time and no regrets inviting them. In fact, I want to spend more time with them. Even if those who had work, they skipped their OJT’s and obligations as a student assistant just to come over. :D

There sure are a lot more reasons for me to remember my 21st birthday. These are just a few of my most memorable of them all.

Here are a few pictures taken during my special day. Feel free to browse through them, and see how much fun we had.

So, to everyone who made my birthday an unforgettable one, thanks so much!

To all those who are celebrating their birthday, Happy Birthday to you all. Remember to find a way to make your birthday special. Your day comes only once a year, so make the most out of it. You won’t regret it, I assure you.

Here are some links you could find useful.. =D

There are a lot more ideas out there on the web. All you have to do is conduct a little research.

Much Love!

A Peek Into the Life of a CompSci Student

Geeky as it sounds, but yes, I am a certified Computer Science (much commonly known as CompSci) stude. Some find it surprising that I do program a couple of stuffs, and, boasting aside, excel in my major subjects.

A couple of things we do in CompSci are the following:

  • Programming.
Yes, we spend maybe 75%-85% in front of the computer doing programs ranging from exercises to major projects. Although sometimes we kind of take a break once in a while, which tend to take up most of the time than programming alone. Haha. We have more talks than work. Well, what can they do, we’d leave the room in a crazy state of mind if we don’t rest our brains! Haha.
  • Seminars/Conference.
In our college, we are required to participate in seminars related to IT or technology. During this event, we have students who compete and participate in some quizbees and competitions. Also, raffle draws are being held during breaks, and at the end of the seminars, which in my opinion is my favorite part of the seminars. =D I bet the other studes will agree with me. =p
  • Thesis.
I know, I know, every college department requires a Thesis Research in order to graduate. But then, since we are CompSci studes, we are required to research and develop a software of something that is innovative. Which is really brain-twisting and nerve-racking! But I know I will survive! Haha

These are actually the major activities of a CompSci stude. If you are into Computer Science as much as I do, then you will find the course fun, despite some difficulties along the way. But I could say I enjoy it A LOT! I can never ask for a better course. =D

Here are a few pictures taken during my stay in school and with my fellow CompSci studes and friends. Will be adding more in the future.
